Too much has been written about the success of Bodyguard. I am adding one more.
Let us confess. It is The monster hit. Blockbuster status attained in one week. It was lapped up everywhere, even overseas.
This raises the question. Is Bodygaurd a success of the film itself? Not at all. If any other actor acted in it, the film would not have become the monstrous hit that it is now. It is the success of the star Salman Khan. It is his power which drove the success to that status. How did he attain this starpower suddenly? IIM management students are breaking their heads over this. His closest rivals are SRK and Aamir Khan who have reacted quite positively to his success. These 3 Khans have a brotherhood type of relationship amongst themselves though there may be open wars sometimes. In real life are not brothers turn out to be biggest rivals and the example of Ambani brothers comes to mind.
Next question is Can Salman sustain this success? If so, for how long? For the next 2 years, Salman has no rivals and his fanbase will sustain this success for him.
And SRK and Aamir Khan have already reached some peak and they will have to sustain their fanbase only if their films have substance. They can no more ride on their starpower. Their fanbase has not that type of madness in them to accept their heroes without question. This is the difference between Salman Khan and the other 2 Khans. Even Rajnikant pales in comparison in front of Salman Khan in terms of sheer starpower. His Robot had high tech technology to help him out.
This makes Salman Khan King, Badshah, Emperor, Bhai all rolled into one.
