'Dabangg 2' Movie Review by Adda Today

“Swagat nahi karoge hamara!” Chubul Pandey asks. My answer “Kyun nahi pandey ji agar aap aise hi entertain karte rahoge toh har baar swagat karenge.”Chulbul Pandey is a darling of aam janta. His fearless attitude which every man on this earth would love to have gives him a certain Demigod status among the masses. 

Back in 2010 Chulbul Pandey made Dabangg an all time blockbuster. All those who think the movie worked because of the direction are those who probably don’t want to accept the truth that Dabangg worked completely because of Chulbul Pandey and his histrionics. And of course the chart buster music. Nobody except Chulbul Pandey could have saved that movie and nobody other than the current box office king Salman Khan could have played the role of the invincible cop with perfection as Salman did. The super success of Dabangg brings us to its sequel Dabangg 2. With the never seen before craze Dabangg 2 hit the theatres today but with a twist – a new director, Arbaaz Khan.

 

Dabangg 2 is an extension to its prequel. Chulbul Pandey gets a transfer to Kanpur from Lal ganj and is on the mission to remove the dirt of the city. Bachha Yadav is his new enemy this time who rules Kanpur and has instilled fear in the citizens of the city. Just like its prequel Dabangg 2 is about how Pandey ji triumphs over the evil. 

Nothing new? Of course not! Disappointed? Of course not! Why should we get disappointed as far as we have Pandey ji to entertain us. The subtle humour, the subtle post marriage romance between Chulbul Pandey and his wife Rajjo, outstanding songs, amazing picturization of all the songs, Kareena’s item number ‘fevicol se’, well choreographed action sequences and above all the feel good factor of the good winning over the evil are enough points to get entertained and that too in a grand way. Is it a perfect film? Of course not! The plot is old and you wish that the makers would have put some twists and turns. The humour is not extraordinary. You won’t fall off your seats laughing. Screenplay is predictable. But in a Salman Khan movie these deterrents are over shadowed quite comfortably due to his charismatic screen presence. The first half is a complete joy ride while in the second half the movie shifts its gear and has few very well directed and well performed emotional sequences as well. In short in the entire movie there is no scope for any loo break. 

As Chulbul Pandey, Salman Khan has exceeded all expectations and has played the part even better than its prequel. He is at such ease with this character and plays it with so much flamboyance and charm that you just don’t want his histrionics to get over. It won’t be an overstatement if I say Salman Khan is the heart and soul of Dabangg 2. Sonakshi Sinha looks beautiful as Rajjo. Whenever she is on the screen romancing chulbul automatically you have a smile on your face. Vinod Khanna is efficient. Arbaaz is decent. Prakash Raj is good but he doesn’t have an impactful role as he had in ‘Singham’ and ‘Wanted’. Arbaaz could have used him in a much better way. 

There were lot of speculations in the trade about Arbaaz being the captain of the ship this time. Many people wrote him off even before the release of the movie. Well as I said Dabangg series is not a direction or content oriented series. It is a character driven series. Of course good direction is required to a certain extent and Arbaaz has comfortably filled the space Abhinav Kashyap (director of Dabangg) left. But it is to be seen how Arbaaz directs the movies where content and direction will be of prime importance. In Dabangg 2, Salman Khan and music made his work pretty easy. 

Music by Sajid-wajid is simply superb and the treatment of the songs on the big screen enhances the movie viewing experience many times. On the basis of music ‘Dagabaaz re’, ‘fevicol se’ and‘Dabangg reloaded’ are my favourites but when I talk about the picturization each and every song has been shot exquisitely. Kareena Kapoor is looking gorgeous as ever in ‘fevicol se’. Malaika Arora Khan lits up the screen with her presence in ‘pandey jee seeti’. Choreography is simply brilliant. 

Cinema is not about how much brain you use in the cinema hall, it’s about how much entertainment you get once you are in the theatre. For people who want to use their brains may skip Dabangg 2 and attend a Chartered Accountancy lecture and for all those who just want to have a gala time with their family and friends may buy the tickets immediately because you might not get them otherwise. 

Salman Khan fans will go MAD! Lovers of masala movies will enjoy! Also, all those who liked Dabangg will not get out of the theatres disappointed in Dabangg 2. 
Dabangg ho! Go for it in a single screen!

'Dabangg 2' Movie Review : Salman does it again

Salman Khan always lives up to his fans expectations, and this time he is back with his super hit character Chulbul Pandey. Even though sequels of good movies turn out to be not-so-good, Dabangg 2 had a unique buzz right from the time when it was announced. Directed by debutante Arbaaz Khan, Dabangg 2 also stars Sonakshi Sinha and Prakash Raj in other lead roles. After some huge and unique promotions, Dabangg 2 has finally released. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

Chulbul Pandey(Salman Khan) is transferred to Kanpur, where he lives with his wife, Rajjo(Sonakshi Sinha) father, Prajapati Pandey(Vinod Khanna) and brother Makkhi(Arbaaz khan). Chulbul being a fearless police officer that he is, solves a kidnapping case and messeswith Baccha Bhaiya’s(Prakash Raj) who is a politician with an immoral attitude. Chulbul fights his gang with his fearless attitude which leaves Baccha Bhaiya gnashing his teeth. He in turn takes revenge by harming Chulbul’s unborn child. The rest of the story is how Chulbul retaliates to Baccha’s crimes and comes out victorious.

Plus Points:

Salman Khan is his usual self, keeps the crowd yelling and cheering, scene after scene. His humor and romance is tremendous, but what make the viewers stuck to their seats are his action sequences. He looks dashing in the desi action and yes! Salman khan goes shirtless in one of the scenes. Sonakshi Sinha looks more appealing and beautiful. Unlike the first part, Vinod Khanna shares an affectionate relation with his son and depicts more comedy and humor this time. Acclaimed actor, Prakash Raj plays a villain of the decade with his overwhelming performance.

Minus Points:

Busy with his direction, Arbaaz Khan isn’t seen in a lot of scenes. Not that we have much to say about the minus points, but the movie has a few similarities to the first part which could have been a bit different. The second half of the movie contains a little less humor and more action. Being an out-an-out entertainer, the movie could have been more elongated. Apart from these few points, the film couldn’t have been better.

Technical Aspects: 

With some new and some old one-liners the dialogues of the movie are just superb as the first part. Music is peppy and numbers like ‘Fevicol Se’ and ‘Pandeyji Seti’, definitely urges the audiences to leave their seats and shake their foot. Also the slow numbers including ‘Dagabaaz Re’ and ‘Saason Ne’ are well sung and also shot nicely. Even though Malaiaka makes a come back for a few seconds in the song, ‘Pandeyji Seti’, Kareena steals the charm with her amazing dancing and pleasing looks. Action sequences have been shot very well and Salman Khan is in his peaks while doing it. Screenplay of the movie is decent and so is the editing.

Verdict:

On the whole, Dabangg 2 is all in all amalgamation of being a perfect family entertainer and one of Salman’s best performances. He once again proves his worth and Dabangg2 is set to create new records at the box-office. A decent and entertaining family outing, Dabangg 2 has everything from music, masti, dance, and romance going its way. Don’t miss it.

These are legendary lines that have been spoken by various actresses throughout the time line of Hindi Cinema. Here’s finally a movie that justifies these words and makes you believe that everything happens for a reason.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan- the title could not have been more apt. It literally asks its viewers to bear it while their life and the sanity inside it can hold off from exploding like a bomb. Jab Tak Hai Jaan tells a tale of how God works in mysterious ways- Jab miya biwi raazi toh kaand karega paparazzi. Jab Tak Hain Jaan begins its love cum lust tale of Army Jawans and the reason why they are called jawaans. It tells you that discovery reporters’s short chaddis are the reason why they are still in the army and why they allow any 21 year old to call them by their first name as if she was their class buddy. It shows that we have so supremely talented guitar strumming poetry churning, and confident Bomb diffusing men in the army that they would allow a trainee reporter to swing her ass right next to the bomb while filming and chit chatting.

Cut to the past and JTHJ shows Jesus was the first person to be knighted by the British empire–Take that Israel !! It gives an important message to the all those desis trying to make it big in the US- If you are an Indian- perform on the streets, and strum the guitar even if you dont know a thing about it–sir jesus will take care of the music n all…and if you are a Pakistani– Well befirend that Indian

In JTHJ, PKD (Pyaar ka devta OR srk) pataos pseudo punjabi gori chic and asks her, aap meri pappi pe tappi toh nahi maroge…10 seconds of co-salivation later..tussi tappi ni maari…hun saanu ik vaari hor pappi chaidi..
So Our Meera because of the pehla pyaar now gets into ANAND (quite literally)..and we see exactly why JTHJ is a family movie.. The husbands started their own meeras draped in white satin over their naked bodies and wives started noticing how their husbands are adjusting themselves in the seats and the teeanged kids saying, ‘hell now we’re talking’.
There are a lot of songs worth of pre-smabhog moments and then because of that one of the 7 sins- Jealousy takes the centerstage and Sir Jesus says well, you know what enough fondling, Ab mere liye isey Chhod do…

JTHJ gives hope to Indian youth and tells them, well you know what, after you have done it all, you can always fall back on the Indian Armed forces, because we are waiting for you to come and diffuse all our bombs, after Army me jaana mushkil thode hi hai,,,Mushkil toh pyaar karna hai.
If all this prem manthan not enough, there’s more for you in JTHj…it takes Ghajini to a whole new level…It borrows from the title track of Shaan – Pyaar karne wale, pyaar karte hain shaan se etc etc..So PKD says …mmm meera ne kaha london chhod do… akira ne kaha army chhod do..ab bhagwaan keh raha hai memory chhod do…ye memoryloss toh retrograde hi hoga…mmmm

The best moment of Hindi cinema and the most defining moment ofQueen Elizabeth‘s life comes when the British finally paid of the Indian Karz of years of ruling and exploitation. The British official allows an unidentified desi to walk into a train having a bomb and allows him to diffuse it –It shows how much the British trust the Desis especially with bombs and all..

JTHJ is an accomplished love story,,,it can make you restless and impatient with its soul shaking moment– You may seriously face identity crisis and shake the soul inside of you questioning–why did I come here to watch this movie? Its extremely emotional and very Cent-i-MENTAL. I shed a lot of tears while watching this movie… It happens to me whenever I am feeling sleepy and trying to keep my eyes open and yawning 15 times in half an hour. I can very well say my tears can be attributed to theYAWN shoshan courtesy JTHJ
JTHJ is sort of a redefining the meaning film– It redfines the meaning of Boredom, patience, time, love and most importantly Bad.

My ratings of Salman khan movies since Wanted

Wanted: 4 out of 5. 1 extra star for entertainment. Have watched more than 5 times and can watch 20 times again. 

Main Aur Mrs Khanna: 1 out of 5.Yawn.

 London Dreams: 3.5 out of 5. Splendid performance by Salman Khan. I was very satisfied when I came out of the theater but very disappointed with box office numbers. This at least deserved HIT status.

 Veer: 3 out of 5. One more splendid performance by Salman and songs are very good. two thing which disappoint me was climax and Zarine khan.

 Dabangg: 3.5 out of 5. 0.5 extra star only due Salman Khan Performance. Movie was entertaining but tight script would have done wonders to box office numbers.

 Ready: 3 out of 5. I quite liked it. I don't think this one is even close to average. It’s a good and a well trended movie. May be because people had too much expectation due to Salman previous outing, they did not enjoy this in theatre.

 Bodyguard: 2.5 out of 5. was not satisfied when I watched this in theater. As I have watched more than 5 times in TV, not even felt bored for once. 

Ek Tha Tiger: 3.5 out of 5. Impressed with Kabir khan Direction & Action Scenes. Salman & Kat chemistry was also fab.

Ek Tha Tiger Movie Review IV

We don’t really need to revise the promotions or hype of Ek Tha Tiger because we all know about it. So let’s get straight to the analysis of Ek Tha Tiger.

In every probability, Ek Tha Tiger is not a bad or an average movie. Rather, it is unexpectedly great and surprisingly exhilarating. 


Cinema is not just about having a different or an innovative concept every-time. It is also about doing justice to your content, no matter whatever it is and Ek Tha Tiger scores in the second type. Ek Tha Tiger’s biggest win is that the movie has a well scheduled story and a thoroughly organized premises, unlike most of the movies these days. Kabir Khan’s artistic stability between commercialism and sensibilities aid the movie magnificently. Even the character sketch of Tiger being such a mechanical and under instructions spy justifies the story such accurately. Further, the title is such correctly relevant. The movie does drive some concepts from Veer Zaara and Mr. and Mrs. Smith but in totality, they remain to be just concepts.

When you talk about screenplay, Ek Tha Tiger does wonders. Kabir Khan’s execution of romantic spy thriller leaves you spellbound by the justifications, detailing of even minor script points, steadiness and computations. Another thing what I liked about Kabir Khan’s narrative is that it is very confidently linear. Some of the diminutive details are dished out and are later used in the movie which may be difficult for some viewers to connect together but keeping his class and standard of execution, Kabir Khan is definite about it and handles the whole thing with expertise.

The first half may be a little slower and there are some real scope for improvisations but it is satisfying and after the end of the entire movie, I would rather call the first half very calculative. To execute the moment of ‘fun on the run’, it’s the director’s job to first create a base or a ground for that moment and regarding this explanation, Kabir Khan’s conduct is commendable. In fact, to make a romantic thriller with complete justifications to the practicality of the protagonists, without making them a love legend or making them go anti to their respective countries and by just doing what they want to, Kabir Khan's attempt should be applauded, who has raised the bar up of very clichédly romantic term “they are in love <3 font="font"> in a modernized, practical, subtle and in very persuasive manner.

Even during the second half, in the chase sequences, the protagonists way of expressing their fondness [exhibited through slow motion gazes and exceptional background score (the thing which I loved in the movie)] is a very passionate thing of direction from Kabir Khan, which obviously is very common but not commonly this rightly done. Second half is sensationally breathtaking. The movie turns so awe-stunning here that if you are influenced to get out of the theatre in the midst of the second half, you will return back to your seat again. The content of the movie, no matter it be a tram fight or even a minor thing like some play in Dublin, i.e. (almost) everything, was demanded by the script. Kabir Khan never intends to go off track and never compromises and he is successful in the end. However, there are some drawbacks of the movie as well.

Foremost is its appeal. Ek Tha Tiger’s appeal is limited but too rooted also. It means you have to be rooted to the romance to enjoy the fun of the movie in the second half. Else, it would be too brainless or at most, just fascinating stunt sequences for you. The reason for this problem is because the genre has been misinterpreted by the audience. It’s a romantic spy thriller and not a spy thriller, there’s a difference. And according to me, the movie defends its genre.

There are two more points which according to me could have been better in the movie. Firstly, some very obvious body-double shots and secondly, the dialogues. Visible body double shots are too noticeable and spoil the mood sometimes and dialogues go down at some high script moments (like during the dance between Tiger and Zoya at the UN Peace Meet). Performances are delightful. Salman Khan is very suitable as a spy but his robotic spy personality is to look out for. It is very distinguished from all the spy characters which we have seen. Though at times he looks old, the charisma he has throughout the movie is eminent for the character. Katrina Kaif has never been this good. I guess Kabir Khan extracts the best from her because even in New York, her performance was stupendous. She surely leaves a strong mark with this movie. Ranveer Shorey and Girish Karnad are wonderful too.

Moving to technicalities, cinematography is jaw dropping-ly amazing. Editing is crisp. Action scenes are beyond the reach of any Hindi movie. It is so beautifully executed and intelligently choreographed as per the characters and situations that there are no questions raised. Music is situationally great. All the songs and their picturizations play an important role in progressing the script. Background score is suitably majestic.


Sau Bat Ki Ek Bat,


Ek Tha Tiger provides many reasons for a must watch experience. No cheesy action, no ek se ek dialogues, no clichéd love story and ofcourse, no stereotyping of Salman Khan. Ek Tha Tiger is in simple words is a Dil ki baat from the director and all his passion for the script is clearly noticeable in his direction. Clean romance, super action, marvelous execution, lively chemistry between the protagonists and significant performances make it a thumpy and an impressive romantic ride. At roughly around 2 hours and 15 minutes, the movie has tremendous repetition value too.

There has been a lot of negativity for the movie post its release and I can't help but sneer at them because the movie in no way is a letdown. You will be surprised how terrifically calculative and how calculatively terrific Ek Tha Tiger is. On the contrary, to me, it is Salman Khan’s best Eid offering so far. Also, just like 3 idiots, this is one of the only deserving highest grossers to come from the Hindi Film Industry.

Ek Tha Tiger Movie Review - III

Story:
In the dark world of intelligence and espionage many secrets are stored for security but some escape the files and become legends. Tiger (Salman Khan works for Research and Analysis Wing, India’s external intelligence agency and is always trotting the globe on assignments. On one such mission Tiger meets Zoya and what follows is a tumultuous journey watched and followed by two nations.

What works about the film:
Everything: from the opening frame showcasing credit titles against the back drop of Turkey to the closing shot freezing on a Black & White frame, writer -director Kabir Khan travels his audience through unfamiliar path and constantly surprises them.
There is not a dull moment in the film and for this the credit goes to the writers-Nilesh Mishra and Kabir Khan. The plot, characters and dialogues are completely believable.
The film has all the twists and turns necessary for a thriller and is ably aided by all the technical departments. Julius Packiam’s background score is seductively upbeat even though it has a striking resemblance with the background score of Akhtar’s Don.
Rameshwar Bhagwat’s editing is razor sharp and action director Conrad Palmisano conceives fearless, magical moments on screen. Aseem Mishra’s cinematography captures blue seas, brown mountains, orange skyline, magnificent architecture and a gorgeous star pair!
It is a treat to watch virgin locations like Turkey, Canada, Cuba as part of narrative and not just for song and dance. Interestingly even the choreography and the songs are in harmony with the story. Special mention must be made of Katrina’s costume by Alvira Agnihotri and the vibrant production design.

Performances:
To all those who have complained that Salman Khan never breaks away from his star image, watch the actor play a RAW agent with sincerity and restrain. He is tough when on a mission, awkward when he is ogled by neighbours, attentive when with his senior, endearing in romantic scenes involving Katrina, anguished when betrayed and fearless when courting danger. Tiger alias Rathore Singh is a character suiting Salman’s age and image!
Katrina Kaif always underplays and that is her strength as an actor. She surprised everybody in New York and Rajneeti and Ek Tha Tiger is one more feather in her colourful cap. As Zoya she is mysterious and alluring and manages to affect you in all her important scenes.

What does not work:
Very small things: There is no explanation about what happens to Roshan Sheth and the Ranvir Shorey and Girish Karnad’s premise of disagreement is unconvincing.

What’s special:
The action sequences are majestic, that Kabir Khan dares to unfold a story untold so far, Salman Khan and most important, the politics of the film! The message was infallible in Veer Zaara and perfect now and both these films are produced by YR Films.

Verdict:
It guarantees a blockbuster opening and house full running for three weeks all over India in single screens, multiplexes and abroad.

Ek Tha Tiger Movie Review

The Hindi film industry is not new to espionage themes. Rather, the secret agent thrillers date back to the 60s and 70s. Recall films like ANKHEN, INTERNATIONAL CROOK, FARZ, SPY IN ROME, JEWEL THIEF, also THE GREAT GAMBLER, SURAKKSHA, AGENT VINOD and GOPICHAND JASOOS…

Post WANTED, DABANGG and BODYGUARD, all Eid releases, Salman Khan and Yash Raj, the premier production house, unleash their first collaboration together, again on Eid. The Pied Piper of the Hindi film industry, who is on a dream run, delivering one Blockbuster after another, is expected to shatter previous records and set new ones at the box-office. 

Is EK THA TIGER at par/better than the previous Salman starrers? All I'd say is that the comparisons, though inevitable, are erroneous. As a standalone film, EK THA TIGER is enthralling and most significantly, an entertaining motion picture. On the exterior, it is a compelling love story/thriller. But beneath the entertainment that it offers, it carries a message as well. Loud and clear. If the spectators can see through the coating, great. Even if they don't, they will yet go back in high spirits. 

Let me clarify, EK THA TIGER is not a 'dark film'. No jingoism. No political statements. This is no James Bond duplication either. It reintroduces a megastar, who is at the pinnacle of his illustrious career, in a wholly new space. This one's made by a desi, with desi sensibilities, but targeting the desi audience as well as those beyond the shores of the country. So, there! 

In the dark world of intelligence and espionage, all information is guarded in the name of national security. But some stories escape the fiercely guarded classified files... 

In a government employees' neighbourhood in New Delhi, there lived a rugged, handsome and mysterious bachelor about whom his neighbours knew nothing. That was because he was India's top spy, an officer with the Research and Analysis Wing [RAW]. This man was known even in official corridors as Tiger [Salman Khan]. 

Tiger is sent on a relatively easy and safe mission to Dublin, Ireland to observe a scientist of Indian origin [Roshan Seth], who is suspected of sharing his research findings with the Pakistan defence establishment. Tiger attempts to meet the scientist, but is not successful. He tries to befriend the scientist's part-time home caretaker, Zoya [Katrina Kaif]. As Tiger begins to get closer to Zoya, he begins to discover his human side. For the first time in his life, Tiger falls in love... 

What follows is a tumultuous journey that Tiger and Zoya embark upon, battling the dark world of intelligence and espionage that forbids its soldiers from falling in love. 

Come to think of it, when you saunter into a cineplex to catch EK THA TIGER, what you want, more than anything else, is an adrenaline rush. Director Kabir Khan's take on a RAW agent is very close to real, but, at the same time, it's not a docu-drama. Nor is the agent a clone of Jason Bourne or James Bond. Like I pointed out at the outset, it's desi at heart. Also, clever, amusing and thoroughly entertaining. 

Kabir Khan's direction is thoughtful, focused and never goes off-track. In fact, EK THA TIGER takes the detective genre in Hindi movies to a fresh altitude. Besides, Kabir and co-writer Neelesh Mishra open the cards gradually and the highpoint is the interval point when Salman unravels something shocking. Post interval, the film throws one surprise after another and it reaches its crescendo in the concluding stages, with the climax making a solid impression. 

EK THA TIGER travels across the globe to capture some of the most exotic locales in the world and the DoP [Aseem Mishra] captures them with flourish. EK THA TIGER has a pleasant score [Sohail Sen, Sajid-Wajid]. 'Mashallah' is the pick of the lot, followed by 'Banjara' and 'Laapata'. The stunts are truly crackling. In fact, the action sequences are of the heart-in-the-mouth variety and if one may add, such stunts and chases have never ever been witnessed on the Hindi screen before. The dialogue is intelligent and sharp. 

Blemishes? Not really, but, yes, the leisurely unfurling of the love story in the first hour slackens the narrative occasionally. Since the sequences are so cute and the fact that the ones performing them are Salman and Katrina, one doesn't really mind it, actually. 

When you have Salman in a movie titled EK THA TIGER, the director doesn't need to convince the audience that he is a tiger. Salman looks the part! Clutching the thriller with his dynamic presence and performance, Salman is, without doubt, the lifeline of this film. He pulls off the part with flamboyance. Also, he brings in so much visceral rousing energy to the film, every time he appears on the screen. Salman and Katrina pair up after a hiatus in EK THA TIGER and their chemistry is electrifying. Though an out-and-out Salman starrer, Katrina is not relegated to the backseat. Neither is she Salman's arm candy here. She has a meaty part and to her credit, she handles it with aplomb. Girish Karnad is excellent. Ranvir Shorey is first-rate. His scenes with Salman are truly wonderful. Roshan Seth is adequate. 

On the whole, EK THA TIGER is a high-octane thriller that works big time. This one has style and substance, both, besides dazzling action, stunning international locales and stylish execution. Most importantly, it has Salman Khan, the trump card of this enterprise. There's no denying that Salman's charisma has resulted in a mind-blowing, astounding, never-seen-before start at the ticket window, but the film's content will sustain it thereafter. The film has long legs to prolong its splendid run. This is, without doubt, Salman's best. Sure shot Blockbuster!
