Sultan did very well in its second week grossing 48.75 crore nett apprx and taking its two week total to 278 crore nett. This is the third highest figure ever after PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The collections did see a drop as against other huge grossers but that was always going to happen as it was a holiday extended first week which meant huge consumption in the first week.
The film will is looking at a 300 crore nett plus total though if there is a big drop in the collections today (Friday) as compared to yesterday (Thursday) then it could become a touch and go situation to reach 300 crore nett. A normal 15-20% drop would be good enough and it should not be hard as the competition is not too strong outside South India. The film did not drop on Thursday which meant the weekdays in the second week have held strong with collections dropping just 15% from Mon - Thu period.
The second week collections are the sixth highest of all time behind PK, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Dhoom 3. 3 idiots and Bajirao Mastani. Generally all the films above barring Bajrangi Bhaijaan did get benefit of a holiday or two in their respective second weeks while Sultan was a normal week. The film is closing on the 80 crore nett mark in Mumbai and has crossed 55 crore nett in Delhi / UP. The eventual business in Mumbai will probably be higher than all Hindi releases this year at an all India level barring Airlift and Housefull 3.
The film across South India has become the second highest Hindi grosser after PK as Bajrangi Bhaijaan numbers under performed with Bahubali dominating the show down South at that time. The figures of Sultan will also take a hit is South from today due to release of Kabali but it has already done fantastic numbers for a very North Indian film.
